Shayna was inspired to run for City Council because she is passionate about the people in HB. She believes in preserving open spaces, she will accelerate our city's move to a toxin-free HB. She understands the importance of tourism here and will oppose any HOV project that does not include exits that easily route tourists into Huntington Beach.
Shayna has lived in Huntington Beach for over 20 years, fondly remembering that first apartment on Huntington Street.
Shayna attended California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) to achieve her BA in Family and Consumer Sciences with an emphasis in Child Development and Family Studies. She went on to earn her teaching credential and Master's degree and became a teacher in the Santa Ana Unified School District, where she has taught for sixteen years. She cherishes the relationships she has built with her colleagues, students, and families.
After losing her mother to leukemia in 2002, Shayna became involved with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training, raising funds to fight blood-related cancers and completing several marathons and half-marathons in the process. She completed her 13th Surf City (formerly Pacific Shoreline) half-marathon on Super Bowl Sunday, 2018.
Always passionate about making a difference, Shayna began volunteering with the St. Baldrick's Foundation, which funds childhood cancer research by asking the simple question, "How much would you donate to help kids with cancer by watching me shave my head in solidarity?" Shayna has shaved her head nine times, and has been an event organizer at her school, inspiring colleagues and students to join her.
Shayna is the proud mother of a sixteen year old son, who attended College View, Mesa View, and is currently studying at HBHS. Go, Oilers!
Shayna is happily married to Steve, whom she met in high school. They enjoy trying new restaurants and traveling together. A few of their favorite local restaurants are The Black Trumpet Bistro, Don Ramon's Mexican Restaurant, and Sango Sushi. They tend to shop local, recently enjoying a Chalk Painting class at Cherry Hills Market in Pacific City (see photo above). When they do leave HB, it's for destinations such as San Diego to visit family, San Francisco, and (most recently) Paris and Barcelona.
Shayna is excited to bring her skills to the City Council and make a greater difference for all residents of this amazing city.
